Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

Last updated 12 August 2026

Buyer Reports is an independent buying-guide site. We do not sell personal information, we do not run accounts or logins for readers, and comments are switched off across the site. This page sets out the data we do handle and how to control it.

The short version

  • You can read anything here without giving us your name or email.
  • We use Google Analytics and Cloudflare to understand traffic in aggregate.
  • We take part in the Amazon Associates Programme, so some links here are affiliate links.
  • We do not sell or share your personal information for money, and we never have.
  • If you want your data removed, email [email protected] and we will action it.

Who we are

This site is published at buyerreports.org. For anything covered by this policy, including data requests, write to [email protected].

Information you give us

The only information you actively hand over is what you type into a form. Today that means an email address, if you choose to subscribe to updates, and whatever you include when you email us. We use a subscription address to send you the updates you asked for and nothing else. There is an unsubscribe link in every message, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our servers keep standard log records. These typically include your IP address, browser type and version, the pages you visited, the time of the visit, and the page that referred you. Log data is not linked to a name, and we use it to diagnose faults, measure load and detect abuse.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. We use them in three ways:

  • Necessary. Cookies set by our host and by Cloudflare to serve pages, cache content and block malicious traffic. The site does not work properly without them.
  • Analytics. Cookies set by Google Analytics that tell us which pages are read and how people arrive, in aggregate.
  • Preferences. Cookies that remember choices such as your consent selection, so we do not ask again on every page.

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking necessary cookies may break parts of the site; blocking analytics cookies will not.

Analytics and performance

We use Google Analytics, delivered through Google Tag Manager, to see which guides are useful and which are not. We also use Cloudflare, which provides our CDN and security layer and reports aggregate performance data. Neither tool is used to build an advertising profile of you, and we do not upload reader lists to either of them. Google's handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy, and Cloudflare's by the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

Affiliate links and the Amazon Associates Programme

This is how the site pays for itself, so it is worth being plain about it. Buyer Reports is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

When you click a product link on this site, Amazon records that the visit came from us, usually by setting its own cookie in your browser. If you then buy something, we may receive a commission at no extra cost to you. What Amazon collects at that point, and how it uses it, is governed by Amazon's own privacy notice rather than this policy. Affiliate links never change how we rank products, and we do not accept payment for placement.

Third-party services we rely on

These providers process limited data on our behalf or receive data when your browser loads a page:

  • Amazon: product links and product images.
  • Google: Analytics, Tag Manager and web fonts.
  • Cloudflare: CDN, security filtering and aggregate analytics.
  • Hostinger: hosting, and the mailing list if you subscribe.

Each has its own privacy policy, and we would encourage you to read the ones that matter to you. We do not control what they collect once your browser contacts them.

How long we keep data

Server logs are kept for a short operational window and then discarded. Analytics data is retained according to the retention period set in Google Analytics. A subscription email address is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, at which point it is removed rather than archived.

Your privacy choices

If you are a California resident, the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to request that we delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing.

We do not sell or share your personal information, as those terms are defined by the CCPA, and we have never done so. There is therefore nothing to opt out of, but the other rights still apply and we will honour them.

To exercise any of them, email [email protected] with the request. We will respond within the statutory period, and we will not treat you differently for asking.

GDPR rights

If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we process it, and to receive it in a portable format. Where we rely on your consent, such as for the mailing list, you can withdraw it at any time.

Send any of these requests to [email protected]. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.

Children's privacy

This site is written for adults making purchasing decisions and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, and we keep the platform and its components patched. No site can promise perfect security, but we do not store payment details or reader accounts, which keeps the amount of sensitive data here very small.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes we update the date at the top of the page. Material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.
